How to take an HDR picture with Canon EOS Rebel XSI?
How do i take a picture that is HDR on my Canon EOS Rebel XSI? Also, my friend on facebook uploads pictures from her Canon Rebel and they look hdr but she doesn't like put it together with a software on her computer it is just like that after she takes it... thanks!
and what (preferably free) software do you recommend?
OK the easy answer here is
1- use a tripod
2- use AV mode, set the camera to bracket the shots (should be the second red menu, first option) go 2 stops for the most spread. Set the camera to rapid fire or set the self timer.
3a- take your shots OR
3b- set the camera to underexpose by the most it will go (2 stops), this will give you -4, -2, 0, then set to overexpose by 2 stops which will give you 0, +2, +4.
Take the shots into FDRTools.exe Basic http://www.fdrtools.com/downloads_e.php
If the shots aren't aligned (ghosting of still objects because the camera moved) then press the align tab and tell the program to align.
Go to the tonmapping tab, play with the settings. As a decent start, place a point in the center of the curve then adjust the right side up or down to suit your taste.
Click save, save as a jpeg.
It's good if you can further increase contrast and saturation in another editing program.
I did this with a 4.15 mp camera, FDRtools and a few other programs.

To get that "HDR look" try going nuts with the contrast, local contrast, and sharpening in another editing program.
