Canon T90 or Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro?
So here's the deal... I need to decide whether to buy a canon T90 body outfit with five lenses (which I've read is a superb manual camera) or further outfit my film Canon XT and digital Canon XSI by purchasing a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. Included in the T90 package is a Kiron 105mm macro lens which I figure is pretty similiar ro the Canon 100mm macro. I figure the Canon T90 outfit will realy help me master the art of photography because I wont have the dependence of automatic focus etc etc. I'm going to be majoring in photography so whatever would me help further in life I will obviously lean towards. I'm having trouble deciding. Any suggestions will be extremely appreciated:)
The T90 is a good camera it was the last professional-level manual-focus camera from Canon, So there is no autofocus. for me thats not a problem but alot of people want to make an issue of it so I point it out here. It was also last professional camera to use the Canon FD lens mount. Now Canon cameras use the EF mount so you will not be able to directly use the lenses from the T90 on your REbel XT. Again not a deal breaker just so you know that going into it. They did make a FD to EF adapter but I'm not sure about its availability now. They however would not focus to infinity with the adapter being used due to flange distance.
The T90 was a very durable camera but long term you may be better sticking with one mounting system and building on that as you will probably update your camera body in the future from the XSi and even if you go with a 1 D or a 5 D ( or even whatever thier next camera out is) then you could use EF lenses. The T90 would be great fun to use and give you good photos but the system is limited to what was already made. I could be wrong but I do not see one easily building a system of camera and lenses here that they would use for a carreer. There are notable exceptions of course like the very desired liecas but thats not the rule
If Canon had not changed mounting systems in 1987 it would be an easy decision
