How do i record with Firewire / DV?
I have a canon NTSC ZR90 and it has a DV port for firewire. How do I record using that if I can record live video feed. And or how do I transfer videos. Are there any good programs that are free?
If your computer has a firewire port, then you need only use a firewire cable to connect the camcorder's DV port to the computer's firewire port.
In this context, DV, firewire, IEEE1394 and i.LINK are all the same thing.
Being a standard def DV format recording camcorder, there are several tools to import the video. But you did not tell us which computer and operating system you are using.
Windows XP (SP2 or newer), Vista and Windows 7 are bundled with MovieMaker. Sometimes MovieMaker throws up - WinDV works well for importing when MovieMaker fails to do that.
Apple MacOSX is bundled with iMovie.
In either case, with the camcorder in "Play" mode and connected with the firewire cable, Import or Capture the video for editing.
There are others available for download - but MovieMaker or iMovie are a good place to start since they should already be on your computer.
If you computer has no firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one. USB won't work and USB-to-firewire cable/converter/adapter things won't work.
