firewire cable not working?
I have a Cannon Optura 500 MiniDV camcorder. To connect it to my computer I tried using a firewire. It didn't work, so I tested it against my neighbor's firewire cable and it worked with his cable. I figured the cable was broken and returned it two times. Both times the new cables didn't work. I finally switched companies and tried my fourth cable. It also doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? It is a 4-pin to 4-pin 1394 IEEE cable. Are there different types of cables and I keep buying the wrong one? I am getting very frustrated with this. By the way, every time I get a new cable, I retest my camera with my neighbor's cable and it always works just fine.
I am testing his cable on my computer and my laptop. He doesn't remember the brand and it looks solid black with nothing on it. I just bought a belkin firewire cable and it works, I still don't know why the others all didn't. They were all different brands (sony, etc.).

what type of cable does you neithbor have? Ask him if you can use it and try it at your house if it works then buy that one ?
